Principal Michael Hagerty recently submitted testimony on behalf of the Carolinas Clean Energy Business Association during the 2023 Carbon Plan proceedings before the North Carolina Utilities Commission and the 2023 IRP proceedings before the Public Service Commission of South Carolina.

Mr. Hagerty’s testimony focuses on the value that solar and battery storage provides to the Duke Energy system to reduce ratepayers’ costs. His testimony also emphasizes the crucial role that proactive transmission planning will play in reducing costs and efficiently interconnecting new solar, storage, and wind resources onto the Duke system.

In the coming months, Duke and Carolinas Transmission Planning Collaborative (CTPC) stakeholders will have the opportunity to implement proactive planning through the first multi-value strategic transmission (MVST) planning process. Mr. Hagerty’s testimony highlights that effective implementation of the MVST study findings will be crucial to proactively identifying cost-effective transmission upgrades.
