Who’s Who Legal Recognizes Brattle Principals for their Work in Arbitration
Who’s Who Legal has recognized eight Brattle principals as leading experts and one Brattle principal as a future leader in the arbitration field for 2019.
Experts were selected for their excellence across a wide range of matters, including valuation, quantum analyses, financial consulting, and giving testimony on commercial and contractual disputes.
Expert Witnesses
Richard Caldwell is an economics and financial expert, with experience valuing businesses and financial instruments across a range of industries, from mining to banking to telecoms, in a range of settings. Mr. Caldwell has testified on damages and financial issues in over twenty international arbitrations. He has testified before tribunals set up under the rules of the Energy Charter Treaty, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), UNCITRAL, Dutch Law, and Swiss Law.
Darrell Chodorow is a consultant with 25 years of experience in commercial damages, valuation, and tax matters. Mr. Chodorow provides expert testimony and consulting advice on damages in breach of contract, intellectual property, antitrust, and other matters. He has acted as an expert in cases before U.S. state and federal courts and the District Court of Cyprus, as well as arbitrations before AAA, ICSID, ICC, LCIA, PCA, and ad hoc tribunals.
José Antonio García is an expert in economic and financial analysis and regularly provides advice on litigation matters as an expert witness. He offers particular experience in the estimation of damages in a variety of industries, including the energy, bank-assurance, and telecommunications industries. Dr. García has provided expert witness testimony in Spanish court proceedings and international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, as well as at the Court of Arbitration of the Official Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Dan Harris has more than fifteen years of experience as an expert in valuation, quantification of damages, and the economics of gas and electricity markets. Mr. Harris has been retained by major law firms and their clients to testify on damages and quantum in international arbitration proceedings in a variety of forums. He also provides advice in gas contract disputes during both the negotiation and arbitration phases and has working experience of the upstream oil and gas sector.
Carlos Lapuerta is an expert in economic analysis and financial valuation, which he frequently applies to estimate damages in international arbitration proceedings. Mr. Lapuerta has served as an expert witness in international arbitration proceedings, including many disputes between investors and sovereign states. He offers particular experience in the analysis of investments and contracts in the energy sector, and has provided testimony in several arbitration proceedings concerning the prices in long-term energy contracts, including natural gas, coal, electricity, and oil.
M. Alexis Maniatis is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Brattle Group and leads the firm’s International Arbitration practice. Mr. Maniatis has more than twenty years of experience providing consulting and expert witness testimony and advising clients on valuation and damages issues is expropriations, contract disputes, competition-related litigation, asset and merger transactions, and regulatory proceedings. He has submitted expert reports and testified on damages issues in proceedings before federal, state, and bankruptcy courts, and before international and domestic arbitration panels.
Daniel McFadden is the Presidential Professor of Health Economics at the University of Southern California, where he has joint appointments at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Department of Economics at USC Dornsife College, in addition to being a Brattle principal. His work in developing methods and theory used in analyzing how consumers and households make choices from sets of discrete alternatives, for which he was awarded the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics, is now a standard tool in analyzing consumer behavior in a wide variety of markets.
Stewart Myers is one of the world’s leading authorities on the theory and practice of finance. He is also a Professor of Financial Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Professor Myers has advised major corporations on mergers and acquisitions, capital investment decisions, financing, measurement of the cost of capital, and valuation. He has also appeared as an expert witness to testify in major cases and regulatory proceedings.
Future Leader
Florin Dorobantu specializes in valuation and structured finance issues with a focus on international arbitration. Dr. Dorobantu has testified on damages in cases before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). He has also advised clients in ICSID, ICC, and London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) arbitration proceedings, as well as in litigation cases in U.S. federal courts, state courts, and tax courts.
