The Brattle Group Featured Among Leading International Arbitration Expert Witness Providers in Survey by Global Arbitration Review

The Brattle Group has been featured in a recent Global Arbitration Review (GAR) analysis of the most active firms for providing expert witness services in the field of international arbitration.

Experts in Brattle’s international arbitration practice, led by Principal Darrell Chodorow, have been involved in 24 hearings over the past two years. Those cases included expropriation, breach of contract, failed business transactions, auction, and trade-related matters.

The GAR analysis highlighted a recent private matter involving Brattle Principals Richard Caldwell and Carlos Lapuerta where evidence “was accepted completely by the tribunal, which awarded 100 per cent of the amount they had identified (the dispute was about an investment in European car parking).” The publication also acknowledged Mr. Lapuerta and Academic Advisor Prof. James Dow for their contribution in Rompetrol v. Romania, “where the tribunal found their side liable for the breach of a bilateral investment treaty but then, persuaded by the Brattle Group experts, decided that no loss had actually been proved.”

The analysis is a new section of the GAR 100 – an annual survey of the leading international capabilities of law firms – and examines the activity of consulting firms in international arbitration cases. In particular, firms were asked to demonstrate how many hearings their experts testified in, and how many cases they provided an opinion in but which didn’t reach a hearing (either because it settled, or the matter is pending). To verify the information provided by consulting firms, law firms in the GAR 100 were also asked to include the names of experts in hearings they were reporting, along with their recommendations.
