Brattle principal Peter Fox-Penner has been selected to participate on the panel, “Can Disruptive Technologies Solve Climate Change?” at the upcoming SXSW Eco Conference on October 6-8, 2014 in Austin, TX.
Dr. Fox-Penner will co-present on the disruption in recent years of many centralized systems, such as telecommunications, network television, computing, and transportation by newer, decentralized technologies. Specifically, it will discuss how with the rise of solar distributed generation, energy storage, efficiency, clean web, and fuel cells, it is possible we are on the verge of witnessing a transformation of the utility sector.
The panel will address questions such as: whether these technologies can carve a bigger place for nuclear energy as a climate solution; what the consequences are of these emerging technologies for consumer costs; and whether these technologies are reliable, and if they will be able to give us the carbon reductions we need.
