Careers at Brattle

To find out what makes us one of the best consulting firms to work for, please visit Why Brattle?

We invite you to learn more about our consulting and research staff positions. If you are interested in learning about opportunities with The Brattle Group, please contact our Recruiting Department.

Principals
Principals at The Brattle Group hold advanced degrees in economics, finance, management, law, or engineering and have built reputations as experts in their fields. They have worked in public and private corporations, academia, and government positions. Our principals include a Nobel Prize winner in Economics, a former Research Fellow to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Principals utilize their expertise in a variety of ways to the benefit of our clients:

  • Serve as expert witnesses on economic impact issues of considerable complexity
  • Assist clients in evaluating their economic exposure and in designing optimal settlement strategies in complex commercial litigation
  • Conduct liability and damage analysis, analyze the appropriate estimation, allocation and recovery of costs, and estimate benefits of noncompliance
  • Analyze and develop plans and strategy options for electric, gas, and other previously regulated industries, focusing on the many complex and often controversial aspects of regulatory transitions
  • Provide expert economic analysis and testimony in proceedings involving industry restructuring, product design, and cost allocation and recovery
  • Estimate corporate or project-specific cost of capital, evaluate options and other derivative instruments, and assess the impacts of alternative capital structures on required levels of return
  • Apply finance theory to capital planning and allocation problems, testifying before courts, regulatory commissions, and arbitration panels around the world

Associates
Associates at The Brattle Group are the central members of each project team. At the initial stages of their tenure, associates handle the research necessary to help complete our engagements. This typically involves applying industrial organization principles, econometrics, finance theory, or cost benefit analysis to litigation, regulation, public policy, and market strategy issues.

Associates quickly acquire greater responsibility for framing research approaches, supervising other associates or research analysts, and handling client contacts. As they gain experience, they also become more involved in sales and marketing efforts. This training helps develop the skills they need to advance to principal.

Associates work in teams on challenging, high-profile projects in an unusually collegial and academically oriented work environment. Successful associates possess advanced degrees in economics, finance, law, or business and have a prevailing interest in applied microeconomics and policy.

Research Analysts
Research Analysts (RA) are critical members of The Brattle Group project team. Working closely with principals and associates, they build and solve economic, financial, and operational models, perform statistical analyses, and research business and legal trends. During their tenure at The Brattle Group, RAs hone their skills in applied economics, finance, and accounting, and develop an understanding of business law through work in a variety of industries. We offer interesting and challenging work for RAs with engineering backgrounds related to environmental work (e.g., environmental, civil engineering, or chemical engineering).

Most RAs stay with the firm for two to four years before entering graduate school. We have an outstanding record of assisting our RAs in applying to the world's top tier graduate programs in a variety of disciplines. Recent RAs have entered economics, business, and law programs at Columbia, Harvard, MIT, NYU, Stanford, the University of Minnesota, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

Successful RAs have a strong quantitative background and have completed significant coursework in economics, mathematics and statistics.
